Once you have started measuring your emissions, setting a goal can be a next step to addressing climate change; a goal can also show customers and employees an organisation\u2019s commitment and prepare for future regulations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A plan to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions typically includes an assessment of where and how organisations are emitting greenhouse gases, and actions necessary to tackle this (for example via energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) is an internationally recognised charity which sets standards for how to develop a net zero plan in a way which is compatible with limiting climate warming by 1.5 degrees, as understood by the latest climate science.&nbsp; This requires net zero greenhouse gas emissions to be achieved before 2050. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More information: &nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebasedtargets.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SBTi<\/a> &nbsp; <\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-40ab6d36-946c-4b74-b2b0-e5c0560e57d4\" data-mobilecollapse=\"false\" data-desktopcollapse=\"true\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-block-\">\n                <div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title-wrap\"\" aria-controls=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-0-40ab6d36-946c-4b74-b2b0-e5c0560e57d4\" tabindex=\"0\">\n                    <p class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title ub-content-toggle-title-40ab6d36-946c-4b74-b2b0-e5c0560e57d4\"><strong>Can you provide greenhouse gas emission data specific to your organisation&#8217;s products and\/or services, and benchmarks against your industry?<\/strong><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-toggle-wrap right\"><span class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-state-indicator wp-block-ub-chevron-down\"><\/span>\n                    <\/div><\/div><div role=\"region\" aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-content-wrap ub-hide\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-0-40ab6d36-946c-4b74-b2b0-e5c0560e57d4\">\n\n<p>This question is about taking more detailed steps with understanding your greenhouse gas emissions. Once you understand your organisation\u2019s total emissions it is possible to attribute these to an individual product or service, and compare your emissions to an industry benchmark\/ average. This enables your clients to clearly report associated greenhouse gas emissions, compare the environmental impact of different offerings, and highlight where there may be opportunities to reduce carbon intensity.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of guidance for producing product-based greenhouse gas emissions data include the Greenhouse Gas Protocol\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ghgprotocol.org\/product-standard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Product Standard,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/37456.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISO14040:2006<\/a> for life cycle assessments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-0ccdb4c7-a687-4e0b-887b-edd4ab386b7f\" data-mobilecollapse=\"false\" data-desktopcollapse=\"true\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-block-\">\n                <div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title-wrap\"\" aria-controls=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-0-0ccdb4c7-a687-4e0b-887b-edd4ab386b7f\" tabindex=\"0\">\n                    <p class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title ub-content-toggle-title-0ccdb4c7-a687-4e0b-887b-edd4ab386b7f\"><strong>Does your organisation look at its impact on biodiversity and does it have plans to lessen any negative impacts?<\/strong><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-toggle-wrap right\"><span class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-state-indicator wp-block-ub-chevron-down\"><\/span>\n                    <\/div><\/div><div role=\"region\" aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-content-wrap ub-hide\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-0-0ccdb4c7-a687-4e0b-887b-edd4ab386b7f\">\n\n<p>This is about how your organisation&#8217;s activities affect biodiversity i.e. the ecosystems, species and habitats in nature. For example, activities like clearing natural habitats, waste contamination, or producing dust, noise or water pollution could negatively affect local wildlife, plants, soil, and water systems. Other activities minimising or reversing such effects can be positive (e.g. creating or not destroying habitats, landscaping with local plants).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biodiversity can be understood and measured in many ways, there is no perfect approach. Finding the right way to understand the importance of biodiversity for your organisation will enable decisions to be made in the context of their biodiversity impacts, and plans to be made which help minimise those impacts \u2013 and ideally, restore nature.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are lots of systems and tools available to help organisations think about nature in their operations. <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebasedtargetsnetwork.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Science Based Targets for Nature<\/a> (SBTN) and <a href=\"https:\/\/tnfd.global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Task Force for Nature Based Financial Disclosures<\/a> both have extensive guidance on this topic.&nbsp;&nbsp;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business-biodiversity.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UK Business &amp; Biodiversity Forum<\/a> offers practical advice for businesses.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-cbb27b3b-6b28-4c60-bbac-b2cb5d7876b0\" data-mobilecollapse=\"false\" data-desktopcollapse=\"true\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-block-\">\n                <div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title-wrap\"\" aria-controls=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-0-cbb27b3b-6b28-4c60-bbac-b2cb5d7876b0\" tabindex=\"0\">\n                    <p class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-title ub-content-toggle-title-cbb27b3b-6b28-4c60-bbac-b2cb5d7876b0\"><strong>Does your organisation have processes to reduce water use and ensure no water pollution incidents?<\/strong><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-toggle-wrap right\"><span class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-state-indicator wp-block-ub-chevron-down\"><\/span>\n                    <\/div><\/div><div role=\"region\" aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"wp-block-ub-content-toggle-accordion-content-wrap ub-hide\" id=\"ub-content-toggle-panel-0-cbb27b3b-6b28-4c60-bbac-b2cb5d7876b0\">\n\n<p>This question is about considering how to reduce water use and prevent water pollution, in order to conserve water resources, protect nature, save money, and comply with regulations. This would usually involve:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identifying environmental impacts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Setting environmental objectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identifying and implementing actions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tracking progress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This can help simplify the management of environmental impact, and compliance with current and future regulations. It can also improve efficiency, reputation and competitive advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.british-assessment.co.uk\/services\/iso-14001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISO 14001<\/a> is an internationally recognised standard for environmental management. An ISO 14001 assessor can assess your system, and\/or you can work with a partner to help set a system up, sometimes including off the shelf software.
